A Clean Sheet

It's been a long time since I've put in a Blog entry.I'd Love to say it was due to technical problems, but I'd be lying. Just down to my sheer Laziness!
In a weeks time it's Mothering Sunday. What better way to please your Mum than a card, some Flowers, and a nice Meal out at The Bird In Hand.
At the end of March its National Cask Ale Week where we will be showcasing how the right Beer will suit the right meal, just like Wine, only better!
For Easter Weekend we have a Traditional Good Friday Fish Supper for £22.95pp. Non-Fish eaters will also be catered for.Following on from that on Easter Sunday we'll have A Sunday Roast Lunch and an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids.Something for all the Family.
Lastly, and for me, most importantly, on 23rd April is St.George's Day. Unfortunately a day that in England seems to be heavily overlooked. But not at The Bird. Bunting will be out, English Ales, wines, Cider & perry will be availabe and in the Evening there will be 'A Taste of England Buffet'. Celebrating all those wonderful English dishes from Roast Beef to Lancashire Hotpot to Apple Crumble.Good Idea if Lent started on 24th April!

Quiz Night at The Bird in Hand

On Sunday night we had another Quiz. Attendance was great, 14 Teams took part. The winning team was the 'Uber Geeks' who scored 43 out of 52. Well Done. My next quiz will be on 16th August at 8pm, so come along, and don't worry, you don't need to be a member of MENSA to take part. It's free to enter and the winning team receive a round of Drinks on the House.

Chico entertains

We had a great night last friday being entertained by Chico, a small guy with a big voice. He started at 8pm and did not stop till gone 11pm. The weather stayed fine, thankfully, so we were all outside enjoying the BBQ and Music.
On Sunday we had a Pub Quiz, over 40 people took part and the winners were 'The Clangers', who were rewarded with a round of Drinks. The next Quiz will be 19th July, anyone can take part, it's free to enter and not taken too seriously.

Beer Festival Jul 10th to 12th

Only 1 month to our summer Beer Festival, and as usual trying to decide on 30 beers from the amount I love feels impossible. Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild will be there, as will Ginger Marble. Rebellion, Loddon, West Berks and Ascot ales will all be in attendance, Its just the rest !! One thing I always try to do is have beers you're unlikely to see outside of a festival.
I normally go north of the border, but this time its West to Wales. Purple Moose, Conwy & Great Orme Brewery will definitely be there. Don't worry Scots, there will be something for you.
Our New Real Ale Page will be up and running in a couple of Days. It will be updated every 2-3 Days showing Beers currently on, their description, price, etc. It'll also have a list of beers coming up in the next  fortnight or so.

Family Fun Day & Dog Show

On Monday 25th May we had a great Fun Day out in the Garden. Luckily the weather was Great, surprising for a Bank Holiday. As well as a BBQ & Beer tent, we had Face Painters, a Magician and a Dog show for the Children. It was well attended and helped raise money for 'The Action For Children Charity'.

Our first entry

t's been such a busy time for us here that i hardly know where to start.
Firstly, we now have this brand new website which we are constantly tweaking - any suggestions are more than welcome. I personally think it is streets ahead of the last one but not yet perfect!
We had great fun at the Reading Real Ale Festival judging the finals - only nearly 40 beers to taste. We were so bowled over by the one that actually came second that we have been allocated 1 barrel ( out of the 11 produced) It will be available this Friday 15th May from 7pm. Beware it's 8 per cent ABV !
We are also looking forward to our Motown Evening and BBQ this Friday with local boy 'Albi J' singing hopfully outside - weather permitting.
BBQ season has started every Friday Night and Sunday Lunch so we are hoping for a great season.
We are really pleased with now being able to serve food all day - with breakfast from 7am. Coffe mornings are also proving popular and we now have Twyford Ladies Who Latte every third Friday of the month from 10.30am. it's an informal ladies networking group.
Last but not least we had a really fun Quiz night last Sunday culminating in a tie - break. The deciding question was
" How many people were in the stadium watching the 1950 World Cup Final? " Email me your answer by 17th May and the winner gets a bottle of champagne.
